The Course for Academic Development of Psychiatrists (CADP) is the biggest annual event organized by JYPO.
The aim of CADP is to develop academic and leadership skills and international relations among young psychiatrists.
This course was founded by Prof. Norman Sartorius [former president of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA)] and was introduced in Japan in 2002 by Prof. Mitsumoto Sato [former president of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neuology (JSPN)]. Since 2008, some participants from various countries have attended this course.
Each participant is assigned a role such as presenter, chairperson, or reporter. Prof. Norman Sartorius attends the course, which is held in Japan each year, and provides direct guidance to all the participants.
All participants actively participate in the programs, thus building friendships that last beyond CADP. These strong relationships encourage further collaborations or symposia in the international congress.
By participating in CADP, young psychiatrists can expand their knowledge, enhancing their skills and consequently their careers and lives.

Thank you very much for the many submissions!
Dear young psychiatrists all over the world,
I’m Ken Suzutani, the chairman of the 22nd CADP. I’m pleased to announce that 22nd CADP is now accepting participants.
The Course for the Academic Development of Psychiatrists (CADP) was designed and started by Professor Norman Sartorius, and introduced in Japan in 2002 by Professor Mitsumoto Sato, (then President of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology). The aim of this course is to develop the professional and leadership skills of young psychiatrists. The course was further developed by the Japan Young Psychiatrists Organization (JYPO). The initial six-year period CADP brought together young psychiatrists from Japan. And from then on, JYPO invited young psychiatrists from overseas to participate in the course.
We have various effective programmes to stimulate the interests of all participants. There are various lectures by famous leading authorities in the world, including Prof. Sartorius. Every participant is required to either give an oral or a poster presentation and can receive in-depth feedback on how to improve their presentations from using a pointer to clarifying the main message. Small Group Work is also an exciting program. All participants are divided into small groups and discuss a certain theme during these three days. The theme varies from year to year like treatment gaps, postgraduate training, disaster psychiatry, and how to make a proposal in order to diminish suicide.
The 22nd CADP will take place in Fukushima, Japan on February 8-10, 2025. We JYPO would like to welcome young psychiatrists from overseas to the 22nd CADP, for the further development of our collaboration and friendship. If you want to participate the 22nd CADP, please register from following link.
With my warm regards,
Ken Suzutani Chairman of the 22nd CADP
